Paul Quinn Unveil One-Of-A-Kind New Basketball Court

Historically Black College and University, Paul Quinn College unveiled their brand new basketball court last Tuesday and it may just been the most beautifully designed basketball court we have ever seen.

As well as the bold colour scheme, using black, silver and purple along with the purple-yellow tiger logo of the school, the middle of the court features imagery of the Dallas Skyline which was taken around 1919-1920. Michael Sorrell, the school's president, says there is a special reason as to why this image was chosen.

The image was taken around the time of the Jim Crow Era, a time where in Dallas, black people could not even walk freely. In times like this where racial tension and injustice is still rife not just in America but all over the world, Sorrell wants to use this court as a means of sparking conversations and ultimately, encouraging positive change.

"This rebirth of public racism is an issue," said Sorrell in an interview with ESPN. "We needed it (the court) to convey several different messages. This isn't just about Paul Quinn; everything we do is a bigger statement...the arena is going to be a history lesson, an educational moment."

Paul Quinn's basketball teams are in the Red River Conference, a part of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). With their season starting in November, be sure that we're going to see a lot more media and iconic photos of this one-of-a-kind court.
