Barking Abbey To Face Wake Forest In An International Friendly

It's a homecoming trip for Brits Cameron Hildreth and Matthew Marsh, as the Deacs of Wake Forest announce that they will be stopping off in London for their European Tour, where they will face Barking Abbey in a friendly fixture.

After stopping off in the capital, Hildreth and Marsh will then head off to Paris, Normandy and then finally ending in Amsterdam.

For the boys, it's an exciting time. It's has been a while since they last played in England. Cameron Hildreth is a name that rung many bells in British Basketball. His time spent at Sussex Storm was where he really turned heads, as well as at Barking Abbey and also in the BBL with the Surrey Scorchers. In the Wake Forest press release, the Worthing born guard spoke about how much it means coming back to the UK to play in front of friends and family. "Basketball in England has been my whole life and been around my family for their whole lives. I'm really looking forward to going back home and playing in front of more of a home crowd. I came here last year to chase my dreams of playing basketball in America, so going back to where it all started to play for a short time is really exciting."

Matthew Marsh is another Brit that plays alongside Cameron at Wake Forest and has probably flown under the radar a little bit, especially with the abundance of overseas experience he already has under his belt. He spent time playing for Barcelona before making the move to the LDLC Asvel in France. "I'm really excited to go back to Europe, this is a real opportunity for me and Cam especially," said the Wake Forest big man. "I'm from Cornwall and lived in Reading for a year so being able to play in London in front of fans, friends and family is a really great opportunity, I can't wait."

In general, for the British Basketball community, this is a great way for the game to be showcased and for upcoming hoopers, especially those that will be playing for Barking Abbey, to see what Division 1 basketball in the states is really like at a very well known programme. The game will be played at Surrey Sports park on the 4th of August at 7.30PM. Tickets are available to purchase here.
