SPACE JAM 2 Release Date Is Announced
The creators of Space Jam 2 have finally announced the release date for the long awaited sequel of the legendary Space Jam movie featuring LeBron James.
The film is set to be released in theaters worldwide and on HBO Max on July 16th. The first Space Jam was released in 1996, making this sequel not only just the end of a 25 year wait for Space Jam fans, but also an anniversary.
The film is based on LeBron James and his son Dom (played by Cedric James) getting trapped inside a rogue artificial intelligence. James then teams up with members of the Looney Tunes family, including Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny and many more to go up against the A.I's generated team of basketball players made up of NBA superstars, including Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Draymond Green and Anthony Davis. WNBA stars Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike also make appearances in the movie and also features Don Cheadle who stars as the artificial intelligence.
The sequel sees some changes to some of the characters, starting with Lola Bunny. According to director Malcom D. Lee, Lola "probably has the most human characteristics of the Tunes; she doesn't have a thing like a carrot or a lisp or a stutter," he told Entertainment Weekly.
"So we reworked a lot of things, not only her look, like making sure she had an appropriate length on her shorts and was feminine without being objectified, but gave her a real voice."
The film will also not feature Pepe Le Pew. The character had been under an increased level of scrutiny after many said that he portrayed and promoted rape culture by continuously pursuing female characters that had nothing to do with him in the Looney Tunes episodes.
It's been a long time coming for Space Jam fans. Many trailers, clips and pictures have been posted and have left people teased for a while, with continuous questions about when and who. All those have been answered now with a date and these new poster pictures. All that's left to do is set your reminders and get to theatres on July 16th.
