Lebron James Breaks The $1 Billion Mark As An Active NBA Player
Not only The King on the court; he's dominating off of it too and is the epitome of his very own mantra, "more than an athlete."
Lebron James has officially broken the $1 Billion dollar mark and becomes the only player to do so whilst still being an active player in the NBA. Many may have thought that Michael Jordan was the first to accomplish this feat, but he actually fell short and did not cross that mark until once he was retired.
LeBron is 1st NBA star with $1 billion in career earnings--salary/endorsements--while still active. Next up among current players:— Kurt Badenhausen (@kbadenhausen) July 22, 2021
KD: $580 million
Curry: $430 million https://t.co/zrfncDk7Lf via @sportico
Since being drafted straight out St. Vincent St. Mary high school into the NBA as an 18 year old kid in 2003, Lebron has earned $330 million dollars strictly from his playing career, meaning that the majority of his earnings has come from his business off the court. This includes endorsements, licensing deals, merchandise sales and of course all earnings from his media business, Uninterrupted. Just to give you an idea of how much some of his off-court earnings are worth, his deals with Walmart, AT&T, Beats, Blaze Pizza, GMC, Nike, PepsiCo and Rimowa net him more than $100 million per year.
He is not only the first active NBA player to achieve this, but also the very first athlete in a United States sports team to do this, putting him in the conversation with the richest of athletes such as Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Cristiano Ronaldo as active athletes to become billionaires.
We may get to see a couple more NBA athletes cross the billionaire mark as active players - Kevin Durant & Stephen Curry who's earnings are currently $580 million and $430 million respectively.
You can hate him all you want, but as you can see that is not going to stop him. Not only has he inspired millions of young aspiring athletes across the world to be the best they can be in their desired careers, but also outside of the lines of play he has inspired many to build generational wealth and not only rely on the sport they play to support them forever.
People can say what they want about this man but what @KingJames has done for as building his brand and being business man is a beautiful thing to see! The younger generation needs to follow this man lead because he’s giving out the Blueprint. Carry the hell on... https://t.co/pisK8NhFQy— Kendrick Perkins (@KendrickPerkins) July 22, 2021
