A Look Back At The Hoopsfix All-Star Classic 2021

A Look Back At The Hoopsfix All-Star Classic 2021

Hoopsfix held their sixth All-Star Classic event yesterday after missing out on last year's event due to COVID 19. The event showcased the UK's best young talent in the U19 age group for both men and women and consisted of a 3PT shootout, a Dunk Contest and of course, a men's game and a woman's game.

The day started off with the 3PT shootout competition which consisted of a mixture of men and women. It was won in the end by Alex Distras who finished with a score of 13.

This was then followed by the women's U19 game which was a fairly close one, with Team White only winning the game by just 5 points. Ipswich Basketball's Cameron Taylor-Willis finished as the MVP of that game with a double double, 17 points and 10 rebunds.

The dunk contest came after and the men got a chance to show off their bounds and acrobatics where Hensy Sako came out as the victor in that one.

The day ended with the Men's U19 game which featured a lot of highlights to say the least. Although the game was nowhere near as close or competitive as the women's game, it was definitely a fun one to watch. Great Osobor was the MVP of that game as he finished with 20 points.

Hoopsfix has always been an important part of UK basketball culture since it's start in January 2010, just 11 years ago, with their first All-star game in 2014. In a time now where UK basketball focuses a lot less on mixtapes and highlight reels, a common theme for young hoopers especially in the states, platforms such as this that showcase our talent on such big platforms like YouTube with partners such as Nike are fundamental to the growth of British Basketball. It was great to see the Hoopsfix All Star Classic event back and although it wasn't in a packed out arena due to COVID-19 restrictions still being in place, it was great to see the UK's upcoming stars, many of whom will be making the trip across the pond to the states for the next step in their basketball careers.
